14 February 2021.
Yesterday, on 13 February 2021, IISL launched a new communication format for its members: the “IISL Happy Hour”. It responds to the increasing desire of members to interact and the good experience made with virtual formats by the Institute, as recently the first virtual General Assembly.
The IISL Happy Hour has been conceived by Vice President Setsuko Aoki, who will also be the host of this series of events. In the first half of the Happy Hour, a presentation is given and discussed and in the second half, members are invited to chat and report, moderated by President Kai-Uwe Schrogl.
For the first edition yesterday, Setsuko Aoki invited Tejas Bharadwa, winner of the Diedericks-Verschoor Award 2020 to present his paper on “Protecting the Dark Skies of the Earth from Satellite Constellations under International Space Law”. The around 20 participants appreciated this inspiring paper and had an interesting round of discussions.
Following this, reports and ideas from members were presented spanning North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Some announcements from this Happy Hour will be elaborated and put on the IISL website as separate newsitems. Setsuko Aoki closed the meeting, considered by the participants as a successful launch, and expressed her pleasure to host the second edition of the IISL Happy Hour in March.
Any ideas for presentations will be welcome and should be addressed to Setsuko Aoki at firstname.lastname@example.org . The timing of future Happy Hours will be adapted to the various time zones to enable the broadest possible participation.
